One of the most controversial songs in John Cale's solo canon, the blisteringly monolithic "Leaving It All Up to You" was recorded for 's Helen of Troy album, but dropped from the record after just a few weeks on release, once the media got wind of its subject matter.

Released in spring , with John Cale back on the road and reveling in the controversy created by the chicken-beheading incident, Guts was a solid reminder of the three albums he cut for Island earlier in the decade -- and which predicted the power and promise of punk with a passion that not one of the movement's other putative godfathers had ever truly communicated.8/

Includes Leaving It Up To You which was deleted from Helen Of Troy and the previously unreleased Mary Lou. The cd backcover has a misprint: Guts is listed as Cute. Thanks to snobb for the addition and to snobb for the last updates5/5(2).

Here you will find the more introverted JOHN CALE: a man and his piano performing his all-time-classics, including an extremely expressive version of “Fear Is A Man’s Best Friend”. Altogether, this set perfectly represents the many facettes of the JOHN CALE in the early 80s – it is a historic document which stands the test of time.

This CD is very hard to explain. This, in my opinion, is by far some of the hardest rocking music ever recorded. From the title track "Guts" to "Pablo Picasso", John Cale elicits your emotions and emplores you to listen. I had the wonderful experience to see John perform this CD live in the late 70's as he was touring the bar circuit in Texas/5(8).
